ACT - Theatre Renovations
CLIENT - Asheville Community Theatre
DESIGNER - Architecture Odell, a Labella Company, SUD Associates
LOCATION – Downtown Asheville, NC
PROJECT SCOPE – The ACT education upfit project is a renovation of the 35 below space in the basement of the Asheville Community Theatre. This 1900 SF upfit included a change of use for shop space to education space, an updated lobby, an expansion of an office, and the addition of a toilet room.
All mechanical, electrical, & plumbing systems were updated to adequately support occupants' needs. An important aspect of this project was the utmost coordination with our trade partners to ensure we were installing aesthetically pleasing/code-compliant systems as limited space was a challenge.
The dye & polish concrete flooring finish, exposed ceiling paired with the lighting fixture package, & custom casework are just a few of the architectural standouts for this project.
In recent years ACT has seen a 62% increase in ticket sales and a 100% increase in educational participation and is in the process of rebuilding its artistic and educational programs. COVID-19 put a hold on a new 3-story expansion however, this budget-friendly 1900 SF renovation allowed ACT to provide a much-needed welcoming space for aspiring youth artists.
I just wanted to take a minute to thank each of you for the stellar work you have done on renovating our lower level space. We are so thrilled by how beautiful the space is turning out to be. Please know how much we appreciate everything that has gone into it. It has gone so smoothly and your generosity in adding in some extra things (closing off the costume shop doorway, the floor in the bathroom, etc...). And most especially, for getting the CO so quickly so that we can use the space tomorrow. I just want you to know how much we appreciate it. Scout - you have been a delight to work with - I so appreciate your diligence, honesty and attention to detail. Grayson, thanks so much for stepping in while Scout was on vacation - I felt a little nervous having someone completely new step in, but it was seamless and we felt well taken care of. Ethan - you have a great staff! You are obviously a terrific leader and certainly know how to hire the right people. Thank you for being so generous and for making things happen for us - I know you have been working behind the scenes to make sure everything has been tended to.
